Guy West is currently the President of Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation (ABCRC), the common collection system agent for non-refillable beverage containers in Alberta. In his role, he works closely with industry partners, the provincial government, non-government organizations and other key stakeholders in planning and implementing improvement strategies for beverage container stewardship in the province. Guy has been involved in the recycling industry in Alberta for over twenty-six years. He is an active participant and past president of the Recycling Council of Alberta, and has been an enthusiastic member of numerous other waste management and recycling groups. He has also served on the Board of the Alberta Emerald Foundation, an organization focused on recognizing and celebrating environmental excellence, chairing its Finance Committee and serving on its Governance and Youth Committees.
Guy is committed to working with young people. Through both his volunteer activities and in his professional capacity, his goal is to foster transformational improvement in behaviour and values in Alberta’s youth. Since assuming the role of President, ABCRC in 2003, Guy has dramatically expanded the organization’s youth programming developing unique tools such as a program for Alberta schools that provides recognition and rewards for enhanced recycling behaviour. His vision is to have the upcoming generation of Albertans develop the capacity to improve how the province manages its environment.
Guy is married to Cecelia and they have two teenage kids. In his spare time Guy enjoys the frustration of trying to improve his golf game.
