Do you still have questions about EPR?
What would residential recycling look like under an EPR program? What will the impacts be on HHW programs?
The RCA, Alberta Municipalities, and Rural Municipalities of Alberta are teaming up to present an EPR workshop for municipalities. This is a great opportunity for municipalities to ask questions and debrief about the ministry’s EPR engagement sessions.
Special guests to provide insight into the impacts municipalities can expect to experience under EPR include:
Dave Gordon is Senior Advisor – Waste Diversion for the Association of Municipalities of Ontario. Dave has been active in the waste management industry for over 25 years having held positions in both the public and private sector. Over the last five years, he has helped lead the successful shift of Ontario’s Blue Box to full producer responsibility and worked closely with the province on other key regulatory policies related to producer responsibility, organic waste reduction and diversion, and environmental oversight and enforcement. The collaborative municipal approach on waste policy established under his leadership has led to some of the most significant changes in waste policy in the last two decades.
Andrew Doi is an Environmental Planner at Metro Vancouver, who specializes in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs and policy. Andrew holds a Master’s degree in Resource and Environmental Management from Simon Fraser University and is a Registered Professional Planner. Andrew began working at Metro Vancouver in 2001, and he has been focusing on EPR programs for over a decade.
We are pleased to have the session introduced by Peter Demong, a Councillor from the City of Calgary, who has been leading municipal advocacy for EPR in Alberta.
The workshop will be moderated by Jason London from the City of Calgary, who has been a long-term member of the RCA’s EPR Project Team.
Our guests will discuss their experiences implementing EPR in their jurisdiction, and share lessons learned.
