Rural Recycling Workshop
The Recycling Council of Alberta is committed to creating awareness and educational opportunities about recycling in rural communities. To increase its outreach, the organization hosted a half-day workshop on October 30, 2018 in Ryley, AB, to provide information to elected officials and staff (public works, or waste and recycling members) about how to establish or enhance the recycling programs in your communities. The session aimed to provide answers to questions on how effective programs can be established, information on the cost savings and environmental benefits of recycling, discussion on frequent issues and hurdles faced by rural communities and how to move the topic of recycling forward in your communities.
The day started with a Recycling 101 Presentation from the RCA’s executive director, Christina Seidel. We then heard from recycling and hauling companies in the area who talked about their services and how they could work with you. Finally, there was time to network with others and discuss common issues and possible solutions.
