Call for Board Nominations
The Recycling Council of Alberta is now accepting nominations for its Board of Directors ahead of the Fall 2026 Annual General Meeting (November 6, 2026, 10:30 am, virtual).
Serving on the RCA Board is an opportunity to contribute strategic leadership and help guide an organization that brings together government, industry, business, and community partners to drive meaningful change in waste reduction, recycling, and circular innovation across the province.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are committed to advancing the circular economy in Alberta from a business, non-profit, government/regulatory, or innovative perspective.
We are looking for people with a strong interest in supporting collaborative solutions that design waste out of the system and strengthen Alberta’s circular economy. Skills we are currently looking to add to the Board include:
- Governance understanding
- Public policy knowledge
- Advocacy experience
- Accounting / financial expertise
- Communications and marketing
- Risk management
That said, we welcome nominations from people of all skills and interests – this list is a guide, not a limit. There will be 3 open positions and nominees will be considered for both the Board nominated positions (2 available) and the member or self-nominated positions (1 available). They are all 3-year terms.

Member and Board Meet-and-Greet: Wednesday, October 21, 2026, 5:00 p.m. – at Catch the Wave 2026 (RCA’s annual conference, Chateau Lake Louise, Alberta)
Annual General Meeting: November 6, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. (virtual)
Meet-and-Greet participation is required
All nominees must be available to take part in a Member and Board Meet-and-Greet on October 21 at 5:00 pm. This introduction session gives RCA voting members the chance to hear from candidates before the AGM. Nominees can join in person at the conference or virtually – either way, we ask that you be present and interact with members during the session.
Eligibility
- To be eligible for a Board position, applicants must:
- be 18 years of age or older,
- commit to attend and participate in meetings,
- be an RCA member (you or your organization), and agree to our Member and Directors (Board) Codes of Conduct. Policy 8.0
Please note there is a majority requirement that Board members reside in Alberta.
Individuals who previously applied for the RCA Board positions are welcome to re-apply for consideration.

Members: Meet Your Board at Catch the Wave
Whether or not you’re putting your name forward, we want to see you on October 21 at 5:00 pm for the Board Meet-and-Greet at Catch the Wave 2026.
It’s a relaxed networking session where members can connect with current Directors, meet the candidates standing for election, and ask questions ahead of the AGM. Can’t be there in person? A virtual option will be available so you can still take part.
Then, join us for the Annual General Meeting on November 6, 2026 to hear the year in review, vote on the incoming Board, and help set direction for the year ahead.
Board Nominations FAQ
What is the expected time commitment for an RCA Board Director?
The Board meets a minimum of four times per year, plus the AGM and social events such as the holiday party or other mixers. Meetings run a couple of hours each and require some preparatory reading. Summer is generally lighter; September and fall are busier as we prepare for the conference and AGM.
All Board members also sit on a standing committee — Finance and Audit, Governance, or Executive. Committees meet as needed to bring advice and action to the Board on matters such as bylaws, finance, and policies.
Directors are also encouraged to join a collaborative interest group and act as a liaison back to the Board on specific topics or industry sectors. This is a new initiative that can be shaped around your talents and interests. Two groups are forming now — one for Textiles and one for Communications and Engagement specialists. The time commitment depends on the activity and advocacy of the group.
Are Board meetings in person or virtual?
Meetings are virtual, unless they are more social in nature — such as the holiday party and meeting.
What are the requirements to be considered as a Director?
To be eligible, applicants must be 18 years of age or older, commit to attending and participating in meetings, be an RCA member (individually or through your organization), and agree to the Member and Directors (Board) Codes of Conduct (Policy 8.0). There is also a majority requirement that Board members reside in Alberta. RCA bylaws and policies are available at recycle.ab.ca/about/who-we-are.
Do I need a specific professional background?
No. We maintain a list of skills we’d like represented on the Board — accounting and financial expertise, public policy, advocacy, governance, communications and marketing, and risk management — but we welcome nominations from people of all skills and interests. We are not limited to this list.
What is the Meet-and-Greet, and do I have to attend?
Yes. All nominees must take part in the Board Meet-and-Greet on October 21, 2026 at 5:00 pm at Catch the Wave 2026. It’s an introduction session where voting members can meet and interact with candidates before the AGM. You can join in person or virtually, but you are expected to be present and engaged with members throughout.
I applied for the Board earlier this year. Do I need to reapply?
Yes, please. Previous applicants are welcome and encouraged to submit a new expression of interest by October 1.
