Alberta Is #1 in Beverage Container Return Rates – Congratulations to RCA Members Who Made It Possible

Alberta has been recognized by the Global Deposit Book for having the highest beverage container return rates in Canada and the second highest in North America.

In April, the Recycling Council of Alberta had the honour of attending a special event hosted by the Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation (ABCRC) at their Calgary Processing Facility to celebrate this incredible achievement.

The Honourable Rebecca Schulz, Minister of Environment and Protected Areas, officially announced the results, with remarks from the Beverage Container Management Board and the Alberta Bottle Depot Association. Both our current Executive Director Jennifer Koole and former Executive Director Christina Seidel were in attendance for the celebration.

This milestone is a testament to the strength of Alberta’s deposit return system—and to the dedication of industry partners, bottle depots, and Albertans who help keep valuable materials in circulation and out of landfills. 💚
