New RCA Member Spotlight: Razphalt

The Recycling Council of Alberta (RCA) is on a mission to advance the circular economy in Alberta. As a dedicated non-profit and charitable organization, we’re proud to work with a growing network of members who are turning waste challenges into resource opportunities. Today, we’re excited to spotlight one of our new members helping do just that—Razphalt.
We spent Earth Day on the ground with RCA member Razphalt, where old shingles get a second life.
Executive Director Jennifer Koole and Operations Manager Jim Gordon toured Razphalt‘s Calgary shingle recycling facility with Zack Irvine.
We learned a lot about shingles, RAP (recycled asphalt pavement), and RAS (recycled asphalt shingles), and how Razphalt is helping tackle the growing amount of roofing waste in Calgary, driven by more frequent hailstorms.
Here are a few impressive stats:
⏺️ 20,000+ tons of shingles recycled last year
⏺️ Capacity to divert up to 40,000 tons annually
⏺️ Every 1,000 sq. ft. of RaZphalt installed = 1.6 roofs kept out of landfill
⏺️ Less than 2% of incoming material ends up as waste
Thank you, Razphalt, for your work—and welcome to the RCA community.
