RCA Member Feature – Alberta Computers for Schools
The RCA is advancing a circular economy in the province of Alberta. As a non-profit charitable organization, we achieve our goals by working collaboratively with and for our members and partners.
In this edition of Connector, we’re excited to showcase Alberta Computers for Schools (ACFS), a valued member of the RCA!
In today’s digitally-driven educational landscape, access to computers is essential. ACFS generously provides approximately 10,000 computers annually to schools, libraries, non-profit organizations, and Indigenous communities across Alberta. Additionally, they offer internships to Alberta’s youth and contribute to environmental sustainability by refurbishing and repurposing old technology.
In 2021, ACFS reached an incredible milestone of delivering 250,000 refurbished computers – a milestone that has significantly impacted the lives of many Albertans since the program was implemented in the province in 1995.
Does your organization have old computers you are looking to recycle or donate? By redirecting your surplus IT equipment through the ACFS program, your organization can significantly contribute to increasing the number of computers available to Alberta schools, libraries, and other educational institutions.
For any equipment that cannot be used, ACFS strongly advocates for the responsible recycling of unwanted electronic computer equipment to prevent toxic waste from entering landfills. In Edmonton, ACFS works in partnership with RCA member organization, Shanked Computer Recycling Inc. (SCRI), and accept all items listed on their website under – What we Recycle.
