RCA & SWRC Joint Regional Workshop Overview

Connector November 2019

Approximately 41 people joined the RCA and the Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council for a regional workshop in Lloydminster on November 21.

Attendees heard from Karen Dela Rosa (pictured above), on local program updates from the City of Lloydminster. The group then discussed responsible single-use item management, including EU and Canadian context and updates. This interactive session was led by the RCA’s Christina Seidel. Kelly Goyer from Multi-Material Stewardship Western and Dave Lefebvre from RecycleBC then presented on EPR and the waste paper and packaging recycling supply chain in Saskatchewan. Jim Lapp from Tetra Tech closed the morning with a presentation on winter composting.

After lunch, the group received an update from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, and Peter Duck presented on composting issues and opportunities in Alberta. The group also heard from SWANA Northern Lights Chapter lead Sheri Praski on Landfill Operator Certification updates. The day wrapped up with a presentation from Michel Lefevbre with Tetra Tech on reducing GHG emissions using Evapotranspiration Landfill Biocover technology.
