Expansion to Saskatchewan’s Electronics Recycling Program
An updated list of electronic items acceptable for recycling will come into effect May 1, 2018. New items include countertop microwave ovens, desktop and portable scanners, floor-standing printers, external storage drives and modems, game consoles, e-book readers, and portable GPS systems.
To make these changes, the Government of Saskatchewan repealed and replaced The Waste Electronics Equipment Regulations with The Electronic Equipment Stewardship Regulations after consultations with industry and other stakeholders.
“These changes were developed in response to consultations and our ongoing commitment to protect the environment,” Environment Minister Dustin Duncan said in a written statement.
Over the next few months, the Electronic Products Recycling Association Saskatchewan (EPRA) will adjust its program to include the additional items. These additional products remain not included in Alberta’s Electronics Program.
