Innovative North American Partnership to Build the Battery Circular Economy
Trail, British Columbia-based KC Recycling has partnered with US-based East Penn Manufacturing to recycle plastic from spent lead batteries directly into new batteries.
The two companies have “closed the loop” by East Penn Manufacturing sending its spent lead batteries to KC Recycling’s facility where the components are separated and recycled. The plastic is then sent to KC Recycling’s extrusion line where 100 per cent recycled polypropylene resin is produced to meet East Penn Manufacturing’s specifications. The partnership will recycle what could have been plastic waste into a new raw material resource.
KC Recycling’s plastic recycling plant supplies reprocessed polypropylene resin to manufacturers across North America to produce battery cases, pain buckets, plastic liners, and more.
Lead batteries are the most recycled consumer product in North America with over 99 per cent of the lead recovered and recycled. To learn more about the circular economy for lead batteries in North America go to https://essentialenergyeveryday.com.
