Join in on Garbage-Free February!
For over 10 years, the environmental non-profit ReThink Red Deer has been challenging individuals, organizations and businesses to go “garbage-free” for the month of February. This includes becoming aware of what’s going in the trash each week, finding alternatives like bulk shopping and reusable products, learning about local recycling and composting programs, and sharing information about local waste-conscious businesses.
The Recycling Council of Alberta is happy to support this initiative and will launch a social media campaign over the month to share tips. Both organizations will use the hashtag #garbagefree2020. We invite you to follow us on our social media platforms and share any of your garbage-free ideas using the same hashtag.
We have a special challenge on Wednesday, February 5. We want to see pictures of you and how you avoid waste on the go. Post a picture with your reusable container, bag, straw or go-mug or your leftover lunch or other tricks to help others live a zero-waste lifestyle. Use the hashtag #zerowasteonthego.
“Going garbage-free in February provides an opportunity for you to make small habit changes in your home and workplace that can lead to a whole year of less waste,” comments Sarah Grass, project coordinator for ReThink Red Deer. “Don’t let the title scare you! Garbage-free may sound intimidating but it happens one step at a time.”
Have fun and share your experience using the hashtag #garbagefree2020.
