New Members This Month 

The Recycling Council of Alberta (RCA) is pleased to welcome three new members whose diverse backgrounds and shared commitment to sustainability will help strengthen Alberta’s circular economy. From community inclusion and textile recovery to innovative manufacturing and individual leadership, these new members bring valuable perspectives and expertise to our growing network.

Cerebral Palsy Alberta (CPAA)

For more than 70 years, Cerebral Palsy Alberta (CPAA) has been empowering Albertans living with disabilities while creating meaningful opportunities to support communities across the province.

In addition to its programs and services, CPAA operates successful sustainability initiatives through its Go Green programs, encouraging Albertans to give new life to reusable materials. Its clothing donation program diverts thousands of kilograms of textiles from landfill while supporting CPAA’s mission, and its beverage container recycling program provides another simple way for individuals and businesses to contribute to both environmental stewardship and community impact.

By combining environmental responsibility with social inclusion, CPAA demonstrates how circular economy initiatives can create lasting benefits for people and the planet.

ChopValue YYC

Turning a single-use item into a durable, locally made product is exactly the kind of innovation that defines the circular economy.

ChopValue YYC, the Calgary-based franchise of the global ChopValue network, partners with approximately 85 local restaurants to collect more than 100,000 used chopsticks each week. Rather than allowing these materials to become waste, they are transformed into beautifully crafted products including furniture, cutting boards, wall décor, and other custom wood alternatives.

By manufacturing locally from an overlooked waste stream, ChopValue reduces landfill waste, supports local businesses, and demonstrates how innovative design can unlock new value from everyday materials. Their work is a compelling example of circular manufacturing in action.

Olivia Smith

RCA also welcomes Olivia Smith as a new Individual Member.

A community engagement professional, Olivia is passionate about building inclusive, connected communities where people feel seen, heard, and valued. Her work focuses on fostering meaningful relationships, supporting community-based initiatives, and creating opportunities for collaboration, belonging, and equitable participation.

Olivia also brings a strong commitment to stewardship and community care, believing that meaningful change is built through authentic engagement, listening, and shared responsibility. We look forward to her participation in the RCA community and the perspectives she will bring as we continue advancing Alberta’s circular economy.
