What’s Ahead: An Update from RCA Executive Director Jennifer Koole
Happy October!
There are so many things I love about October. Topping the list includes that it’s the month we all get together at our Annual RCA Conference – this year at the iconic Banff Springs Hotel – and it’s Circular Economy month. Okay, the fall leaves, fresh apples, and pumpkin spices are high on my list too.
This year the RCA is celebrating October, aka Circular Economy Month by:
- Hosting the RCA Circular Economy Conference: “Beyond the Grave – A Circular All Hallows’ Eve” from October 30 to November 1, 2024, at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel.
- Offering pre-conference workshops on October 30th. Choose from Sustainable Procurement, Plastics 101, EPR Updates, or Sustainable Flower Arranging workshops.
And we’re excited about these RCA member events too!
- Oct 2: Reducing Food Waste Webinar (City of Edmonton)
- Oct 2-4: National Organics Recycling Conference (Compost Council of Canada)
- Oct 16-18: RemTech 2024 (Environmental Services Association of Alberta)
- Oct 16/22/24: Waste Solutions Summit (Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council Events)
- Oct 23-25: CWMA Conference (Coast Waste Management Association)
And we’re proud to be part of the wider Circular Economy Month celebrations including encouraging organizations or individuals to:
- Declare your participation in Circular Economy Month.
- Pledge to commit to small, impactful actions.
- Host or attend events like swaps, repair cafes, or webinars.
- Spread the word using promotional kits.
October is also the month the RCA will unveil its new 5-year strategic plan: RCA Vision 2030 at our upcoming AGM (October 30, 2024). This has been in development for months and we can’t wait to share it with you. HINT: The future of the RCA is round 😉
We are also looking forward to officially paying tribute to RCA icon Christina Seidel, former Executive Director, at a special event on October 30th at Banff Springs during the RCA conference. Join us in person or in spirit to honour this recycling legend.
So, with that, let’s get on to the good stuff! October here we come.
