RCA Member Feature – Find Furniture Bank
The RCA is advancing a circular economy in the province of Alberta. As a non-profit charitable organization, we achieve our goals by working collaboratively with and for our members and partners.
Find is a social enterprise of Homeward Trust Edmonton that provides essential furnishings free of charge to individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness through the Housing First program.
Additionally, it supplies low-cost, quality furniture, and housewares for sale to the public. Find is the largest of its kind in North America, and we are proud to support our community every day through Housing First and our retail stores.
All items sold or used in the Housing First program are donated by the community, and 100% of proceeds help those transitioning out of homelessness. On average, Find furnishes 100 homes through the Housing First program every month.
In 2021, Find furnished 1581 homes, helping over 2300 people move out of homelessness through Housing First with community donations.
The start-up cost for individuals moving into their first home can be expensive, and this challenge is magnified for those transitioning out of homelessness. The financial burden can act as a significant barrier to securing sustainable housing. By furnishing homes at no cost, the initiative aims to afford participants the opportunity to establish a safe and comfortable environment as they embark on their new journeys.
These services play a pivotal role in the effort to eradicate homelessness by ensuring that those recently housed can maintain their residences and live independently.
