This month’s RCA member spotlight: Change Toothpaste
The RCA is advancing a circular economy in the province of Alberta. As a non-profit, charitable organization, we accomplish our goals by working collaboratively with and for our members and partners. This month we are spotlighting one of the RCA’s newest members – Change Toothpaste.
Just like paste, without the waste.
Did you know it is estimated that more than 900 million toothpaste tubes are thrown out every year worldwide? Research shows it will take more than 500 years for tubes to break down, and it is likely the very first plastic toothpaste tube ever made is still sitting in a landfill.
With a vision of combating the hundreds of millions of empty tubes destined for landfills around the world each year, Canadian entrepreneurs Mike Medicoff and Damien Vince created a toothpaste that comes in the form of a tablet. Dubbed Change Toothpaste, this innovative hygiene product is a creative solution to using traditional toothpaste tubes made of plastic and often more than 11 layers of plastics, polymers and resins which makes them extremely difficult to recycle.
Removing the need for a tube altogether Change Toothpaste tablets are a zero-waste, natural, vegan, and nut, soy, and gluten-safe toothpaste alternative in tablet form. Packaged in compostable pouches, they reduce the environmental footprint while giving you a clean, fresh brushing – without any harsh chemicals. And they are made right here in Edmonton, Alberta.
