2023 RCA Summer Ambassador Introduction
The Summer Ambassador program, a tradition for the RCA since its inception in 2004, has served various Alberta municipalities and companies for almost 20 years. The Ambassadors are itching to get started and will participate in various events across the province this summer to promote recycling and other environmental initiatives. They have a broad range of educational backgrounds and will represent the RCA at compost giveaways, waste audits, curbside studies, public recycling events and more!
The program runs May 1 to September 1. We still have openings for projects so contact us soon to secure your spot. Reach out if you are interested in hiring an Ambassador.

I have a Bachelor of Environmental Science degree from University of Calgary. During my university degree, I got involved in an environmental research project which allowed me to gain skills such as sample collection, analysis and technical report writing. One of my career goals includes learning new attributes and ideas through hands-on experience and meeting professionals with expertise in a variety of areas in the field of environmental science. I enjoy spending time outdoors by involving myself in activities such as hiking, traveling, and biking. I also enjoy meeting new people as I get to learn new things which will not only benefit my personal life but also my professional life.

I live in St. Albert and will be entering my third year of a Bachelor of Science, Major Biological Sciences at the University of Alberta this fall. Although my studies concentrate on the field of genetics, I have been passionate about sustainable practices for many years. I worked with the RCA last summer as an Ambassador and was able to find a greater love for waste management (no joke, I love waste management).
I also used the experience gained last summer throughout the year, volunteering on the U of A’s Sustainability and Sustainability & Capital Fund committees. In my spare time, I play competitive ringette as a goalie and completed my tenth season this year. I also love theatre and performing arts and have newly ventured into the space of improv, performing with the University Improv Group. I am very excited to be back with the RCA this summer and grateful for the opportunity to expand on the skills and knowledge I obtained last year.

I am a fourth-year Engineering student at the University of Alberta. The reason that I want to study engineering is that it is challenging, and I like to take on challenges in life. I was born in China and moved to Victoria, BC when I was 14. In my spare time, I enjoy dancing, hiking, and playing badminton. I look forward to working as an Ambassador and the opportunity to learn more about recycling and sustainability in Alberta and I hope my work will contribute to the community.

I am a born and raised Edmontonian who loves the outdoors. I am currently in my last year of a Bachelor of Science at MacEwan University, where I am majoring in Psychology with a minor in Biology. I am applying to medical schools this year, where I hope to become a psychiatrist! I love learning and trying new things, which has resulted in far too many hobbies to count! My primary hobbies include gardening, craftsmanship, and playing video games. With all of this in mind, I am sure there are many more hobbies and projects to come, as I love pushing myself to try new things and experiment with all experiences life has to offer!

I was born and raised in Ecuador. I earned my Geographical and Environmental Engineering degree from the Armed Forces University ESPE in Quito. Nowadays, I am a student in the MEng. Environmental Engineering master program in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, at U of A. I am fluent in both English and Spanish. I have always related to the environment, looking for opportunities to improve our relationship with natural resources. Following this, I worked in the field creating an Environment Management System for an Automotive Industry based on international standards. Combining this knowledge, I was a geography technician with Moorlands Foundation, working with the indigenous community for good management of drinking water. My career goals are focused on working on issues related to the circular economy, improving waste reduction and researching new opportunities to manage solid waste. In the future, I would like to do a PhD in clean energy or solid waste management. In my free time, I prefer to be outside running, hiking or cycling. I like outdoor sports when the season allows it. Otherwise, I play the piano and ukulele or enjoy watching movies at home.
