Alberta Government Grants

Connector Spring 2016

Alberta’s Ministry of Labour currently offers two grants which may be useful to some of our members:

  • The Canada-Alberta Job Grant which is an employer-driven training program.  Under the Canada-Alberta Job Grant, employers cover a minimum of one third of direct training costs, and  government covers up to two thirds of training costs (up to a maximum of $10,000 per employee).  For more information on the Canada-Alberta Job Grant, please visit: http://www.albertacanada.com/opportunity/employers/jobgrant.aspx
  • The Summer Temporary Employment Program (STEP) which is a 4 – 16 week wage subsidy program that provides funding to eligible Alberta employers to hire high school or post-secondary students into summer jobs from May to August. A standardized wage subsidy of $7.00/hour to a maximum of 37.5 hours/week is provided to approved applicants. Note: As of February 29, 2016, STEP applications are no longer being accepted for summer 2016.
