RCA Delivers Successful Waste Auditor Training Workshops
The Recycling Council of Alberta hosted Waste Auditor Training Workshops in Edmonton and Calgary on April 19 and 20, with instruction very capably provided by Ben Dunbar of AET Group Inc. The workshop included an introduction to the concept of waste auditing, and the reasons audits are done. The various types of waste audits were reviewed through an overview of different audit approaches and their relative advantages. Participants were then introduced to the nuts and bolts of delivering waste audits, including processes involved in audit planning and preparation, sampling and sorting methodologies, as well as the importance of, and approaches to, data reporting and analysis.
The workshops were well subscribed, with 63 attendees registered from a variety of sectors, including municipalities, institutions, and businesses. Feedback was very positive about this opportunity to learn about waste audits from a practitioner with hands-on experience, how to apply the knowledge gained to divert more waste from disposal.
The RCA would like to thank Ben Dunbar for sharing his depth of expertise with us, and to our hosts at the City of Calgary and City of Edmonton for providing great facilities.
